Makhadah Valley Adventure

Your first mountain Adventure should feel exciting — not overwhelming.

Hidden among the highlands of Al Shafa, Taif, Wadi Makhadah offers a relaxed introduction to Saudi mountain terrain. The valley combines open scenery, granite rock and natural mountain surroundings in a route that remains accessible to first-time adventurers.

Most of the route is easy and relatively flat, allowing you to enjoy the valley before the Adventure changes character. One focused section introduces a light mountain ascent followed by a guided rope descent from the opposite side.

🧗 Your First Step Beyond Hiking

Makhadah is designed as a natural progression into mountain Adventures. Start on an approachable valley trail, build confidence on the rock, then finish with a professionally guided abseil.

🥾 Easy Valley Hiking Enjoy mostly open and gentle terrain in the mountain environment of Al Shafa.
🪨 Light Mountain Climb Step beyond ordinary hiking with one short, guided climbing section.
🧗 Guided Abseil Finish the technical section with a controlled rope descent under team supervision.

✨ Adventure Without the Intimidation

Makhadah gives new adventurers the confidence to explore natural terrain, experience their first climbing movement and discover how a rope descent feels — all within an approachable mountain Adventure.

Start With the Trail. Step Onto the Rock.

Then take your first descent — the Lost Mountains way.

Yes. It is designed for beginners and first-time adventurers who want to progress from an easy natural route into a controlled technical experience.
Can this be my first mountain Adventure?
Yes. No previous technical experience is required, provided that you have basic fitness, can walk on uneven ground and follow the team's instructions.
Do I need previous hiking experience?
No previous hiking experience is required, although regular walking and familiarity with natural terrain will make the day more comfortable.
Do I need climbing or rope experience?
No. The team explains the equipment and movement required before the technical section and supervises each adventurer.
What fitness level is required?
Basic general fitness is sufficient for most adventurers. You should be able to spend several hours outdoors, walk on uneven terrain and complete a short ascent.
What is the route terrain like?
Most of the route follows easy, relatively flat valley terrain. The short technical section is steeper and requires more deliberate balance and foot placement.
Do I need to be comfortable with heights?
Reasonable comfort with moderate heights is recommended because the Adventure includes a guided abseil. Tell the team before booking if you have a strong fear of heights.
Does the Adventure include actual climbing?
Yes. One short, light mountain ascent introduces movement on steeper rock and may require using both hands and feet under team supervision.

Can I use my own helmet or harness?
Personal technical equipment may only be used after inspection and approval by the Abseiling Specialist. The supplied equipment is sufficient for the Adventure.
How is safety managed?
The team completes a safety briefing, checks equipment, controls access to the technical section and monitors weather, terrain, group pace and individual readiness throughout the Adventure.
What happens if the weather changes?
The team may delay the start, modify the route, remove the technical section or end the Adventure early when rain, high water, wind, poor visibility or terrain conditions create an unsafe situation.
Is there always water in the valley?
No. Water is seasonal and depends on rainfall and local conditions. It must never be treated as a guaranteed attraction or a drinking-water source.
What should I bring?
Bring a small backpack, hydration, personal snacks, high-grip hiking shoes, suitable clothing, an extra layer, rain protection, gloves, sunglasses, a sun hat, sun protection and any personal medication.
