Camping. Rock. Ropes. One summit rising to 2,425 metres.
Rising to approximately 2,425 metres above sea level in the highlands of Al Shafa, Taif, Granite Mountain stands among rugged rock formations, juniper forests, agricultural terraces, and open views across the Sarawat Mountains.
Al Shafa’s relatively cool climate and dramatic mountain environment give this adventure a distinctive character, making it an ideal step for adventurers ready to progress beyond conventional hiking and move closer to mountaineering.
The experience begins with arrival at the mountain campsite, where adventurers establish camp, prepare their equipment, meet the team, and receive a detailed summit and safety briefing. Dinner beneath the stars provides time to prepare physically and mentally for the following day.
Summit day begins after breakfast, backpack preparation, and a final equipment check. The route passes through agricultural terraces and sections of juniper forest before progressing into increasingly rugged granite terrain.
Although the route is approximately 2.5 kilometres round trip, its elevation, rocky surfaces, and technical sections make it more demanding than an ordinary mountain trail.
Higher on the mountain, the experience develops from hiking into more engaging mountaineering movement, including rocky scrambling, steeper terrain, and a guided rope-assisted ascent using established anchor points and professional safety systems.
Campsite preparation, equipment checks, a safety briefing, and dinner beneath the stars.
Agricultural terraces, juniper forests, mountain trails, and increasingly challenging rock.
A supervised ascent using ropes, established anchor points, and technical safety equipment.
The Lost Mountains team prepares and manages the technical sections, safety systems, and rope equipment. Adventurers need good fitness, controlled movement on uneven terrain, the ability to remain active for several hours, and the discipline to follow the leaders’ instructions.
A complete mountain experience combining camping, preparation, teamwork, and a technical ascent, ending with open views across Al Shafa and the Sarawat Mountains. The summit attempt remains subject to weather, route conditions, and the adventure team’s assessment.
